The populist prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, told President Donald Trump on Thursday she believes, together, can “make the West great again.”
Meloni visited Trump at the White House on Thursday, where leaders shared a lunch and bilateral meeting. Talking to the press at the Oval office after the meeting, Meloni told Trump that his goal is to restore greatness to Western civilization.
“I know when I talk about [the] West mainly, I do not speak of a geographical space. I speak of civilization and I want to strengthen that civilization, “he told Trump.” So I think we have some problems, it is fine, between the two coasts of the Atlantic, it is the time we tried and found solutions. “
Meloni thanked Trump for the acceptance of an invitation for “an official visit to Rome in the near future, and considered a possibility in that place to meet with Europe.”
“The goal for me is to make the West great again, and I think we can do it together,” he added.
“We can,” Trump replied with a smile.
Meloni also detailed a bilateral number or issues that she and Trump discussed the duration, including those related to the economy, defense, space and energy, noting that Italy will increase imports of liquefied natural gas. Trump said previously that they also discussed the duration of the trade their meeting.
Trump praised Meloni at the top of the press Gaggy, saying he is “doing a fantastic job.”
“I would say she has tasks from Europe for storm and very respected,” Trump said. “They all love her and respect her, and I can’t say that of many people. And she has become a friend, and we really have a great relationship between Italy and ourselves.”
The meeting occurs when Trump and the European Union arrested newly announced tariffs on each other for 90 days as commercial negotiations develop.
