Vietnam has promised to increase its purchase of American products, including security and defense products, the government said Monday, since it seeks urgent conversations with Washington to delay or divert tariff impositions.

The manufacturing giant of Southeast Asia has the US as its largest larger export market in the first three months of the year, but its key client has now reached it with a colossal duties of 46 percent, AFP reports.

That has caused an urgent call for conversations with Vietnam that seeks the consent of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to delay its implementation in at least 45 days to give time to negotiations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam “would approach and negotiate with the US side to reach a bilateral agreement, advancing towards a sustainable trade balance,” according to a statement published on the government news portal on Monday night.

“It would continue to buy more products that are strong and that Vietnam has demand, including products related to safety and defense; it promotes the early delivery of commercial aircraft contracts,” the statement added.

Vietnam imposed tariffs are part of a global commercial bombardment announced last week by Trump, since Heeks is better results for US manufacturers and consumers.

The general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, for LAM, has sent a letter to Trump asking for a delay to the rate.

According to an AFP view, LAM said he had appointed Vice Prime Minister Ho Duc PHOC to serve as the main contact with the US side on the subject, “with the aim of reaching an agreement as soon as possible.”

Hey also said he hoped to meet Trump in Washington at the end of May to end the matter.

Trump said Friday that he had a “very productive” call with LAM, who said he wanted to make an agreement on tariffs, as Breitbart News reported.

“I just had a very productive call with LAM, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, who told me that Vietnam chickens to reduce their zero tariffs if they can make an application with the United States,” Trump Social Post.

“I thanked him on behalf of our country and said that I look forward to a meeting in the near future,” he added.

The street call days after Trump announced its world reciprocal and reference tariffs worldwide, which included a reciprocal tariff with a discount of 46 percent on imported Vietnamese goods to the United States.

The reciprocal tariffs that Trump imposed on many countries will enter into force after midnight on April 9.
