Trump’s EPA Reconsidering Safety of Adding Fluoride to Drinking Water

The Environmental Protection Agency of President Donald Trump (EPA), directed by the administrator Lee Zeldin, is reconstructing the security of adding fluoride to drinking water.

The agency announced this decision in a press release on Monday, explaining that “it will review the new scientific information on the potential risks for fluoride health in drinking water.”

“This renewed scientific evaluation is an essential step that will report the agency’s decisions about the fluoride standard under the safe drinking water law,” says the press release, in line with the Make America Health Again (Maha) agenda.

Rarin said the evaluation will provide clear steps for the agency regarding legal obligations under the Safe Drinking Water Law. The press release also cited a report from the National Toxicology Program of August 2024, which concluded that they had “modern confidence” that exposure to fluoride above 1.5 milligrams per liter is associated with a lower intellectual coefficient in children. ” The report advised more research on the matter to see “if there are health risks associated with exposure to lower fluoride concentrations.”

“Without preaching any results, when this evaluation is completed, we will have an updated fundamental scientific evaluation that will inform the future steps of the agency to comply with legal obligations under the Law of Safe Drinking Water,” said Zeldin.

“Secretary Kennedy has been at the forefront of this issue,” he continued.

“His defense was fundamental in our decision to review the risks of exposure to fluoride and we are committed to working with him, using sound science as we advance our mission of protecting human health and the environment,” he added.

The Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Robert F. Kennedy Jr., also said he plans to tell the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that stop the construction fluoride in the water supply of the communities.

The review occurs immediately after several individual communities vote to eliminate the fluoride from their drinking water.

Utah became the first state to prohibit fluoride in drinking water completely. The measure, signed by Governor Spencer Cox (R), enters into force on May 7.
