Kiiv, Ukraine (AP) – At least 32 people have been killed in a Russian missile strike against the Ukrainian city of Sumy on Sunday, authorities said.
Two ballistic missiles hit the heart of the city around 10:15 am when people gathered to celebrate Ramos Sunday, according to the officials. The images published from the scene in the official channels showed black body bags that are on the side of the road, while more bodies wrapped in aluminum blankets between the rubble were seen. The video images also showed firefighters crews while fighting to exaggerate the shells of burned cars among the debris of damaged buildings.
“In this brilliant Palm Sunday, our community has suffered a terrible tragedy,” said interim mayor Artem Kobzar in a statement on social networks. “Unfortunately, we already know more than 20 deaths.”
At least 32 people were killed as a result of the attack, including two children, said the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in a statement. Another 84 people were injured, including 10 children, he said.
The president of Ukraine, Volodyymyr Zenskyy, confirmed that rescue efforts were in Onoing and said the “deans” had been killed in the double missile attack.
“According to preliminary information, civilians were killed and wounded. Only dirty scum can act like this: increase the life of common people,” he said.
The attack on Sumy is the second large -scale attack that claims civil lives in almost a week, after a deadly missile strike against the hometown of Zensky or Kryvyi Rih on April 4 that killed about 20 people, including nine children.
Zenskyy also asked for a global response to the attack. “The conversations have never stopped ballistic missiles and aerial bombs. What is needed is an attitude towards Russia that a terrorist deserves,” he said.
In another part of Ukraine, the mayor of the Ukrainian city of Jharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, said Sunday that a Russian strike had hit one of the city’s childhood gardens, breaking windows and damaging the facade of the building. No victims were reported.
The strikes arrive a day after the major diplomats of Russia and Ukraine accused each other or violated a tentative negotiation agreement of the United States in marriage attacks on energy infrastructure, underlining the challenges of negotiating the end of the 3 -year war.
The foreign ministers of the two countries spoke in separate events in the Annual Diplomacy Forum Antalya, one day after the US envoy. Steve Witkoff with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss peace perspectives.
“The Ukrainians have attacked us on the legs from the beginning, every day, perhaps with two or three exceptions,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, adding that Moscow would be a list of duration of the United States, Turkey, three duration.
His Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, played that statement, saying on Saturday that Russia had launched “almost 70 missiles, more -taye -te -tayfe -tayfe -tayfe -te -te -leme onlifanans strikes.
