Just 10 days after his career at the NHL, Gabe Perreault had his first healthy scratch designation.

The 19-year-old striker, who burned a year of his entrance level contract to inform the Rangers for the rest of this season, played three games before the chief coach Peter Laviolette chose to scratch him in favor of the Flyard on 8-5 on Wednesday night.

As a result, Berard returned to the fourth line with Sam Carrick and Chris Kreider.

“We are going to put Berard in the alignment, so again, 12 strikers.” Laviolette said Wednesday morning when his reasoning was requested behind the decision. “Upon entering, I think that for a young player, especially directly from the university, there will be times when you think about which you can teach and show him and let him see, learn and practice in some games, too.

With an average of 13:31 of ice time through its first three appearances, Perreault has had two ends and has skipped in the first six and six.

After spending his first two games in the left wing of JT Miller and Alexis Lafrenière, the 2323 team was on the right wing of Carrick and Keider in the 5-1 defeat against Lightning earlier this week.

Perreault concluded his second season at Boston College last month, after the Eagles lost to Denver in the regional final of the NCAA tournament.

When asked if there is greater urgency to evaluate Perreault as much as possible taking into account how few games would be present, Laviolette firmly said no.

“When we return and look at the game, the coaches sit and go through things with him,” he said. “I think it is a learning process for young players. It’s already practice, games, videos, look, it could be a combination of everything.
