The Stephanie Turner female corner was honored with the Courage Wins Champion Award for refusing to face a transgender opponent last week.
XX-XY Athletics announced Monday that Turner received the award, Fox News reported.
“When surrounding, he became more powerful than any man. He remained firm to fight for women’s sports,” said the founder of XX-XY Athletics, Jennifer Sey, in a statement. “She is a hero.”
Turner rejected a match last week against a transgender opponent at Cherry Blossom Open in Maryland, choosing to insist on a knee. The video of the incident is customary to viral.
Usa Fencing immediately punished Turner for refusing to compete against Trans opponent. He quickly came out with a statement that defended his actions and his policy of forcing women to compete in the identification of the Aginst mine as transgender women.
“The Fencing of the United States remains committed to promoting an inclusive and respectful community for all in our sport. We believe in the principle of creating safe communities where all athletes and community members have a place,” said the organization’s statement.
“While we understand that there is a variety of perspectives, the Fencing of the United States will continue to participate in a respectful dialogue and based on research and review as the policy evolves in the Olympic and Paralympic movement, as well as the national law. Respectful law and the cozy strip to all,” the statement added.
Damien Lehfelt, president of USA Fencing, also boldly defended men who identify themselves as women competing as women.
