EU Enacts Mild Tariff Response While Looking for Deal with Trump

The European Union speaks of a difficult game on the rates, but introduced its own at a lower rate than the United States, while saying that it hoped to reach an agreement.

The European Commission described the “unjustified and harmful” tariffs, by presenting theirs over US assets on Wednesday, the members of the European Union agreed a package of “retalating tasks.” Only Trump Hungary’s strong ally, directed by Viktor Orban, voted against the measure.

Although the announcement of rates worth 22 billion euros arrived in the midst of rotating headlines of a commercial war with China, the European movement seems to be anything but, with new billions billions less than taxes for the United States and some articles of cancellation of cancellation items.

Brussels tried to navigate President Trump on steel and aluminum rates last month, threatening to impose taxes on products made in republican voting states. Among them was a 50 percent tariff in the American whiskey, which Trump immediately countered with a 200 percent super tax on European exports of alcoholic beverages, threatening the important trade of French wine.

As expected in the face of such determination, the whiskey rate was included in the EU package today. In total, while the European Union continues to speak hard of Trump, since he believes that he must save his face with his own voters, in practice, the block has moved away from the commercial war and imposes superficial while he does.

In fact, some of the agreed rates today won in force for months, giving negotiators more time to reach an agreement, if one is possible.

A commission spokesman said today that his negotiators were looking for a “beneficial and mutual beneficial” agreement with the United States, Euraactiv reports. The same statement saw that the powerful EU main body adheres to its hypocritical position in tariffs in general, however, insisting that theirs is justifiable, while those of other nations are irresponsible.

They said: “The EU considers the US rates. UU. Unjustified and harmful, causing economic damage to both parties, as well as the global economy.” These comments echoed previous comments from the EU Commissioner of the EU Maroš šefčovič, who also affirmed a position of being good when Brussels does it. In his opinion, “inevitably counterproductive unjustified rates.”

ŠEFčovič had said previously that American tariffs on European goods would cost € 80 billion. Compared to the 22 billion euros raised by Brussels today, the degree to Europe is not charging a Chinese style commercial war rises more.
