Chinese National Convicted of Acting as Spy for China Arrested by ICE

A Chinese citizen, who was previously convicted of acting illegally as a foreign agent of China, was arrested by immigration and customs agents (ICE) of the United States.

Ming Xi Zhang, owner of the already Yaodos noodles in the municipality of Montgomery, New Jersey, was arrested by ICE agents in Newark on March 24, according to an ICE press release. Currently, Zhang remains in ice custody while waiting for an immigration procedure.

In April 2024, Zhang was sentenced by the United States District Court for the New Jersey district for “acting illegally as an agent of a foreign government without prior notifications to the attorney general.” Zhang received a sentence of three years of probation.

“Any illegal driving activities of foreigners related to espionage, sabotage or export control of the United States is subject to deportation,” said John Tsoukaris, director of the Field Office of the ICE Execution and Exting Operations Operations Office.

According to the press release, while Zhang “Legal entered the United States in June 2000,” Hey “violated the terms of his legal admission.”

Zhang’s daughter, Emily Zhang, explained to NJ.com that “the authorities had asked” his father “to register with them and was arrested when he appeared.”

Emily told The Outlet that they were “a little waiting, waiting for Bond” or on probation, and added that “customers have been supportive” or his father.

“People have bone, offering their phone number and asking how they can help,” Emily explained to the output.
