Elon Musk’s brain implant startup, Neuralink, has raised $ 600 million in a financing round that values the company in $ 9 billion prior to money, Semafor reported, citing anonymous sources.
Semafor did not mention the investors involved in the round. Neuralink last raised $ 43 million in risk capital, in November 2023, and was valued at around $ 5 billion in June 2023, Reuters reported at that time.
Neuralink did not immediately respond to comments requests outside regular business hours.
The Semafor report corroborates previous reports of Bloomberg, which indicated in April that the startup was looking to raise $ 500 million to an assessment prior to the money of $ 8.5 billion.
Neuralink last year received the authorization of the “innovative device” of the United States FDA. So far three people have received implants made by Neuralink. Earlier this month, a nonverbal patient published a video how he uses a Neuralink implant to edit and narrate YouTube videos with only his brain signals.
Elon Musk’s brain-computer interface company, Neuralink, has successfully raised $600 million in a recent funding round, elevating its pre-money valuation to $9 billion. This marks a significant increase from its estimated $5 billion valuation in 2023 .
Clinical Advancements
Neuralink has made notable progress in its clinical trials. The company has implanted its brain-computer interface device in three patients, including individuals with paralysis and ALS. One patient has demonstrated the ability to control digital interfaces—such as playing video games, browsing the internet, and posting on social media—using only brain signals .
In May 2025, Neuralink received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s “breakthrough” designation for its device. This status is granted to medical devices that offer more effective treatment for life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating conditions and can expedite the development and review process .
Future Applications
Elon Musk envisions Neuralink’s technology extending beyond medical applications. Potential future uses include treating conditions like obesity, autism, depression, and schizophrenia. Musk also foresees capabilities such as web browsing and telepathic communication through thought alone .
This substantial funding round underscores investor confidence in Neuralink’s mission to revolutionize human-computer interaction and address complex neurological conditions.
