2025 NCAA women’s lacrosse tournament: Top players, how to watch

The Women’s Lacrosse Tournament of 2025 NCAA begins this weekend, with games on Friday at the campus sites. The 29 Team Field presents 15 automatic offers and 14 selections in general.

Boston College is the current sport champion and the Eagles will try to become the first team to repeat as headlines of national titles for the first time in a decade. However, it stands on their way, the undefeated tar heels of North Carolina, which have already passed BC twice this season.

The rest of the field includes talented players, interesting stories and a handful of teams with real possibilities to compete for a place in the Final Four. I break down everything is knowing about the tournament this season.

How does the Female Lacrosse Tournament format of the NCAA work?

Of the 29 teams that make the field, the three main seeds receive good -round goodbyes. This year, those belong to the general seed of North Carolina, North Carolina, the current Champs Boston College and the northwest of the third sealing, which won the tournament in 2023.

The eight best seeds in the field obtain accommodation privileges duration of the opening weekend of the tournament. The rest of the main seeds are: No. 4 Florida, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 Maryland, No. 7 Yale and No. 8 Johns Hopkins. The games in the first and second round will be on ESPN+. The quarterfinals and the semifinals will be in ESPNU, and the national championship game will be broadcast at ESPN at noon and May 25.

Who is the favorite in the Women’s Lacrosse Tournament of the NCAA of 2025?

They are the Tar Heels of North Carolina, which are perfect 18-0 and have 11 victories on national classified opponents, including two against Boston College and one against Northwestern. Guided by chief coach Jenny Levy, the Tar Heels occupy the second national place in scoring with 17.5 goals per game and first in defense, allowing only 6.67 goals per game.

Leading the offensive of the Tar Heels are the sisters and finalists of the Tewaraton, Chloe and Ashley Humphrey award. Chloe, a first -year student of the red shirt, was named MVP of the ACC tournament and is sixth at the national level to score with 73 goals this season. Ashley, a last year student, is the national tenth at total points with 70 assists and 28 goals. Chloe is the first first-year student to be a finalist at Tewaraton-Akin for Heisman Lacrosse for women, while Ashley is nine assistance to own the career record of all time of the NCAA.

At the defensive end, the second year student of UNC, Betty Nelson, has the fourth best percentage of savings in the country in 50.5.

North Carolina will play the winner of Clemsson vs. Navy on Sunday. Los Tigres, whose program is only three years old, are in the NCAA tournament for the first time, while Navy is in the field for the first time since 2019 under the coach of the Fame Hall Cindy Tycha.

What other players are seeing?

Rachel Clark of Boston College is the main scorer of the nation with 91 this season, while Madison Taylor de Northwestern is alone with 89 goals. Taylor also has 32 free position goals this season, which leads the country.

Also for Boston College, goalkeeper Shea Dolce is a finalist from Tewaraton. She was a goalkeeper voted in the ACC and has the best percentage of savings of the nation at 55.7.

Georgia Latch, a senior attack in Loyola Maryland, is also an offensive force, since it is second nationwide at total points with 69 assists and 53 goals. The grays open against Stony Brook on Friday and the winner will face Boston College.

Madison Epke or James Madison is the best in the country with raffle controls, winning 12.61 per game and a total of 227 in the season. JMU opens the tournament against Duke on Friday.

Defensively, Reagan O’Brien or Johns Hopkins is the queen of forcing ball losses, causing 85 this season and 4.72 per game. The Blue Jays open the tournament versus freedom.
