Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned the International Port of Vizhinjam on Friday, here, which was completed at an estimated cost of ₹ 8,867 million rupees.
Modi arrived at the port area by helicopter from the city of Thiruvananthapuram at 10.15 am and walked through the Transbyo Center with a hard hat, bar of the facilities here.
Subsequently, at 11.33 am, the formally commissioned the first phase of the installation in the presence of the governor of Kerala, Rajendra Arlekar, Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the president of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani Taroor.
Located in the district of Thiruvananthapuram, the port is expected to transform the role of India into international trade and shipping.
The deep water port has been developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (Apsez), the largest port developer in India and part of the Adani group, under a public-private association.
After a successful evidence, the port received its commercial commissioning certificate on December 4 of last year.
