A prosecutor from Virginia is taking heat for the indulgent treatment of an illegal migrant that was released despite a serious crime charge for strangling a woman.
The County Prosecutor Steve Descano is under fire for reducing an agreement for the National Guatemalan Wilmer Osmany Ramos Giron, who was arrested in January and accused of kidnapping by force, assault and strangling a woman. According to the reports, Descano knocked down the charges in exchange for a statement of guilt only by a position of mindchoidor of swinging a blade. And the suspect was released.
ICE officials reported that Ramos Giron has been deported twice previous, has sentences for firearms and other charges, and has an ice arrest against him. But the Descano office did not alert them to the arrest or release of Ramos Giron.
ESCANO delivered to the Foreigners this agreement despite the fact that the victim presented an emergency protection order was granted by a judge, according to WJLA-TV.
The police report says that the victim told Ramos Giron Tok his keys, prevented him from leaving and placed his hands on his neck, while threatening her with a knife. Police added that the incident was a domestic situation because Ramos Giron wanted to see their children.
Descano is also being torn by admitting that he took into account immigration status and hoped to protect Ramos Giron from federal immigration officials.
“Whenever possible, Steve will make cargo and pleas decisions that limit or avoid the consequences of immigration,” says Descano on his website, according to the report.
Virginia’s attorney general Jason Miyares criticized Descano for his approach to immigration instead of the law.
“Think about this: you are willing to deal with those who broke our laws and come here illegally and give them an indulgent prayer or guilt agreement that someone who is actually a legal citizen of the United States. That is excessive to me that he is going to me that what he knows, whatever he knows, which says that that is, which says that that is, what he says that is, what he knows. Your paper.
Member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Board of Fairfax County and Sean Kennedy also torn Descano.
“It is frightening that Fairfax’s prosecutor protects and integrates this dangerous and violent criminal precisely because he is present illegally,” Kennedy said. “How does an immunity to break a set of laws to break more?”
