According to the reports, a cryptographic wallet linked to the missing Dark Web Alphay website was behind the donation of $ 31 million or the creator of Bitcoin to Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht, according to Blockchain’s analysis.
Blockchain’s analysis firm, Chainusysis told Wired for a June 5 report that had tied the 300 Bitcoin (BTC) donated to Ulbrich earlier this month Alphabay, a predecessor of Silk Road that operated from 2014 to 2017.
The chain chain suggested that the funds came from an important supplier on the platform that would have had access to such substantial amounts.
“We have reasonable reasons to suspect that the thesis funds originated in Alphabay,” said the chain chain director Phil Larratt. “Looking at the amount, that would suggest that they come from some who were possible a seller in Alphabay in the first days.”
The Independent Blockchain detective ZachxbT confirmed that the 300 Bitcoin did not come from the silk route and pointed out suspicious patterns of how the donor moved the funds.
They used multiple mixing services to obscure the transaction path and charged other cryptocurrencies in small quantities to avoid detection, which suggested indicated criminal origins.
Zachxbt said in X that the donation seems to come from an “incomplete central mixing service”, called Jambler, Waseas normal privacy enthusiasts use decentralized mixers like Wasabi and the now missing Samourai.
The analysis suggested that money was a “legitimate donation, but not legitimate funds,” Zachxbt told Wired.
“Use or multiple mixers, extending CEX [centralized exchange] Deposits, etc., which are typically made if you are trying to prevent illicit funds from freezing, “he said.
Alphabay’s demolition in BTC links
The chain analysis was fundamental in the identification of Bitcoin addresses linked to Alphabay, who play a key role in the demolition of the Darknet market in an investigation known as “Operation Bayonet” covered by 2016 and 2017.
Any BTC hero since then has dramatically appreciated, potentially approximately 40 times, but the identity of the donor and his motivation is still unknown.
In January, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, completely forgave Ross Ulbricht, who had been in prison for 12 years fulfilling a double life imprisonment plus 40 years for running the silk route.
