Smith has been fighting demons far beyond the football field.
Colts’s right backle revealed that the compulsive obsessive disorder, combined with religious scrupruption, forced him to have suicidal thoughts.
“I was physically present, but Smith was not about to be found,” Smith told the Indianapolis star to miss the last five games of the regular season of the Colts. “I didn’t care to play football. I cared with my family, with my wife, with my newborn son … (I felt) I was a month after putting a bullet in my brain.”
Smith, who has played the seven or their professional seasons with the Colts, explained that Christian Faith had deformed his mentality in a more sinister and negative perspective of his life.
Religious scrupulousness is a form of OCD that made Smith constantly havetened perfectly for every sin he committed, where he has just asked his motivations or his delivery for his bar.
“There is the real, real, true and living God,” said Smith, who became after being raised in Methodist. “And then it is my God OCD, and the God of Toc is this condemnation (deity). It is like every wrong movement you do; it is like hitting the ruler against his hand.” Another bad movement like that and you are out of here. “
Smith added that he was trying to be perfect and going crazy in the process.
“There was only one person who was perfect, and it was Jesus,” said Smith. “When you try to live up to that standard, that really lives, it will go crazy.”
Unlike the physical manifestations of the compulsive behaviors of the objects of the OCD or count, they are mainly an internal struggle.
“I will hold on to certain pieces of the Bible, certain scriptures, speaking of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit,” Smith added. “I would say:” Oh, if I think of something bad from God, I go to hell. “Selling my soul to the devil’s things, that was a prominent issue.”
Smith went to therapy and was placed in an antidepressant and a mood reinforcement, that his wife, Courtney Smith, said he did not work.
“We were all talking on the phone at the same time, trying to discover how we can get it well, hey, because not play,” he said. “But the pharmaceutical products did not feel like himself, and as his wife, he did not want him to go there and play when he did not feel like himself, because football is a dangerous game. You do not want to try to fight the men of 300 pounds if you do not feel everything with that.”
On Thanksgiving, things show a turn for Smith, since it was recorded in an intensive mental health center, where it would sit in the last five games of the season. The initial of the Colts called this absence “personal reasons not revealed.”
Ibogaine, a psychoactive compound derived from the Iboga plant in the center of Afria, was the “last effort of Smith” of Smith to a solution, he thought, since he classifies himself as a drug of list 1 in the United States, he had to go to Mexico for Treaty.
“For me, it wasn’t very intense,” said Smith. “I had two hours of, you know, images, hallucinations and nothing I can remember … They say that Ibagaine gives you what you need. Just no, we just don’t know what it is right now.”
Smith also remembers having taken the 5-Meo-DMT psychedelic, who said “restart” his brain and helped him find God in the right way.
“I can’t explain it, except me and God were intimately one,” Smith said about his DMT experience. “When I started calling Jesus, I thought:” I need me to know, please forgive me for everything. “I shot myself, and it seemed that I was exorcised by me, or bad energy, or whatever …
Smith added that now in a much better place and hopes to play at the NFL next season.
“I still have Toc, but I don’t strengthen me,” said Smith. “Do not dictate my life.”
Smith restructured his contract with Los Tolts, lowering his salary from $ 16.75 million to $ 8 million this season, where he hopes to return to the high -caliber player, he has been his entire career.
“Withdrawing Smith back, and is in a great place,” said the general manager of the Colts, Chris Ballard. “I think people forget how well the toasted is.”
Smith began in 92 games since he was recruited by the Colts in 2018 and was the sixth best offensive Tackle Agreement of the League for Football Focus.
