A 20 -year -old airport safety measure will finally be in force next month.
As of May 7, flyers in the United States will not be able to climb to a domestic flight unless they have a real identification.
After years of delays, the transport security administration will begin to enforce the Royal ID law, which was first introduced in 2005 after September 11 to the safety of height air trips.
The National Security Department repeatedly delayed the deadline of its original date of 2008, but the deadline of May 2025 is believed in definition.
“Anyone who is planning to fly in the coming months should do everything a card that meets the real identification for May 7 or travel with their passport, even nationwide,” Nick Ewen, senior editorial of The Points.
According to the DHS, if its identification of referred status or driver’s license has a star (and/or flag) or says “improved”, it is ready to address national flights and access certain federal facilities.
All travelers over 18 will need a real identification, unless they have another form of identification approved by the TSA, such as:
- American passport
- Improved driver’s license from the state joint
- DHS Trust Traveler Cards (Globalentry, Nexus, Sentri, Fast)
- ID of the United States Department of Defense (including dependent IDs)
- Permanent resident card
- Edge
- Acceptable photo ID issued by a tribal nation/Indian tribe recognized by the federal government
- PIV HSPD-12 card
- Passport to trial for the foreign government
- Canadian provincial driver’s license or Indian affairs card and northern Canada
- Transport workers identification credential
- Employment authorization card of citizenship and immigration services of the United States (I-766)
- American commercial sailors credential
- Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
According to reports, throughout the country they feel flooded with appointment requests to obtain real identification.
“We have seen reports of limited appointments and longer lines,” said Ewen. “For example, the New Jersey motor vehicle commission has an online dating assistant, and for those who are not yet eligible for renewal in the next three months, there are exactly zero appointments.”
Those without a real identification can have some problems to obtain one before the deadline of May 7, but those who are lucky to obtain an appointment must ensure their prepared DMV.
Each state has different requirements for what documents are needed, but the DHS has an online tool that will inform travelers if they are “Real Reales of ID”, as well as a map with details for each state. In most states, a real identification cost more than a license, he thought some charge more.
To request a real identification in New York, travelers can visit their premises and send their required documents: full legal name, date of birth, social security number, two management tests and proof of legal status.
After the presentation, New Yorkers can expect to receive their real identification by mail within approximately two weeks.
