Uber eyes B2B logistics push in India through state-backed open commerce network

Uber is entering the growing B2B logistics market of India by extending its association with the non -profit organization backed by the Indian government that aims to break the domination of the Electronic Duo Amazon and Flipkart backed by Walmart and expand the Nation of Digital Commerce.

On Monday, Gianant’s trip announced that he will soon launch his B2B logistics service through the Open Red Digital Commerce (ONTC) to help companies on the network access logistics on request through the 1.4 million Uber controller. Driver. Initially, the service will allow food deliveries for companies that operate in the open network, but is destined to expand to electronic commerce, groceries, pharmacy and even health logistics.

With its new movement, Uber will be greedy as a supplier of logistics services on ON ON ONDC, competing with the tastes of Shiprocket (TeMek and Paypal), Shadowfax (TPG, Qualcomm Ventures and eight back -backed paths), recent Indianorn Porter.

It will be a white label service and will work similar to Uber Direct, launched in the US in 2020, but will limit the companies available in the ONDC network, a person familiar with the plan to TechCrunch said.

The incursion of Uber in B2B Logistics in India follows the expansion of the company in the consumer logistics space through the presentation of Couer XL in Delhi NCR and Mumbai earlier this month to help users deliver large merchandise of four-wheel products from Faner-Mots-Mots-Moeds. The company has also been offering its regular delivery of messaging packages in two -wheeled vehicles for some time.

Logging in general makes sense to Uber, since the Indian logistics market is expected to grow 49% to 13.4 billion Indian rupees ($ 157 billion) in the 2028 financial year of 9 billion Indian rupees ($ 105 billion) in the financial year. The measure will help Uber obtain another business case in India, after seeing an increase of 41.1% year after year in their operational revenues in the country to $ 439 million last year. The results of their last years also showed travel collections that grew 21.45% interannual of total operating revenues at $ 94.27 million.

However, Uber faces a growing competition in the Indian transport market of local actors, including emerging as fast (Westbridge Capital and Nexus Ventures Backed) and Namma Yatri (Google, Blume Ventures and Astas with Asta). Its diversification in new domains, such as logistics, is expected to help the company based in San Francisco to keep India as an important market.

Next to its B2B logistics game, Uber has implemented Metro tickets in its OndC rider application, based on the memorandum of understanding that the company signed with the non -profit duration backed by the Indian government ofarhohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohrohho. Tickets are available first through the Uber application, while subway tickets in three more Indian cities will later go this year.

Released in 2021, ONDC debuted as the initiative of India to boost digital trade and allow small retailers to connect online and reach more customers easily. The network also expanded to the mobility sector in 2023.

ONDC was initiable designed to replicate the success of the unified payments of the Indian government, with the aim of promoting the adoption of digital trade. However, he has had trouble gaining traction, since his open network model has not yet won on the main actors in the industry. The recent Churn leadership has increased its challenges, with only its former managing director and CEO, T. Koshy, resigning last month. Retail orders on the network also decreased by almost 34% to 4.3 million in April from a peak or 6.5 million in October.

“Initial authorization or Uber Metro logistics unlock new possibilities, from multimodal trips without problems to unifying a fragmented logistics ecosystem,” said Vibhor Jain, CEO and OndC operations director, in a prepared statement. “This collaboration feels the bases for future innovations of Uber on the network, improving the value for users, partners and the broader mobility and services.”
