The exchange between Stirling, 45, and Newport Beach officer was captured through images of CAM and Dash CAM, which the Police Department launched on Wednesday, May 7.
“I’ve been drinking, official,” Stirling told the officer when he first approached his motorcycle. “I am completely sober, I’m just trying to stay safe. People have almost hit me on my legs all day.”
After the officer asked him to sit down, Stirling replied “I don’t care what you tell me to do.”
He then tried to achieve his identification, asking the officer not to shoot him while recovering him.
“I’m not going to shoot you,” he replied. “Do not reach shit, how about that?”
The two continued to argue for about 30 seconds until Stirling seemed to take several steps towards the officer. That triggered a duration of physical altercation that Stirling allegedly reached the officer’s taser and tried to point him to the officer’s head. The officer then retaliates firing Stirling six times.

“The videos have expressed serious concerns and many questions about the actions of that police officer,” Stirling family said in a statement provided by their lawyers so that Us Weekly Thursday. “Or the serious and specific concern is that the videos seem to show that Geoff moves away from the officer at the time he received six times. The family through his lawyers plans to file a lawsuit in a federal court to obtain complete answers and seek responsibility.”
In an informative video published by the Newport Beach Police Department, which included images of the incident, Sergeant Steve Oberon Alaga: “Mr. Stirling hit the officer several times in the head and then removed the taser from the officer of his service belt.”
Stirling’s family, including Lydia and his brothers, saw the images differently.
“Geoff received a mental health crisis when he was arrested for a traffic violation. Geoff was unarmed and did not represent a deadly threat to the officer,” the family said in a statement. “The Stirling family expects all video and audio images together with each report and crushing of evidence related to this deeply disturbing shooting to be preserved for its presentation in due time as part of the demand that the family will follow. Although no start of help was offered.”
