New York (AP) – It is said that brands, not filmmakers or stars, govern the box office thesis days. But “Sinners” by Ryan Coogler, led by the twin Michael B. Jordans, demonstrated a bloody exception to the rules of modern films, which was launched with $ 45.6 million in sales of tickets in the American and Canadian theaters, according to the estudio Sunay estimates.

“Sinners”, a launch of Warner Bros. that cost around $ 90 million to produce, was a bold commitment in originality, although with gender elements, and one of the most financing American directors in Coogler. The director of “Creed” and “Black Panther” wrote and produced “sinners”, a 1932 vampire film about Bootlegings Brothers (both played by Jordan) that open a Juke Juket in his hometown of Mississippi.

“A Minecraft film”, the greatest success of Hollywood of the year, followed closely, raising $ 41.3 million in its third week of launch. That gave Warner Bros., after a handful of disappointments, an enviable blow of a two at the box office with an original film, directed by the director and an IP -based property.

“A Minecraft movie”, why Warner Bros. Copodujo with legendary images has accumulated $ 720.8 million worldwide in three weeks of launch.

Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, co -chants of the Warner Bros. films group, celebrated the resonance of the two films with the spectators. The study represented a notable 64% of the national box office for the Easter weekend.

“The films have the power to transport us to worlds that are only seen on the big screen, and Warner Bros. Pictures remains committed to bringing unique experiences in the theater to audiences looking for bold films, both original and those based on a sum and state statement.”

But all eyes were in the performance of “Sinners”, which Warner Bros. did everything possible to ensure. Abdy and Luca agreed to give Coogler not only a cut of the sale of gross tickets, but also the property of the film after 25 years, a concession virtually unheard of due.

But Coogler and Jordan, whose collaborations date back to “Fruitvale Station”, make up one of the most powerful director-actor’s duos in the industry. The reviews (98% “fresh” in Rotten Tomatoes) were stellar for “sinners” and the public were also captivated by their supernatural turns. The film obtained a “A” Cinemascore by Movie Moers.

Abroad, the “sinners” faced a more uphill battle. He collected $ 15.4 million in 71 international markets. Nationally, the “sinners” attracted a diverse audience: 38% black, 35% white, 18% Hispanic and 5% Asian.

Before “Sinners”, the dual roles had been a difficult business for Warner Bros. The studio saw failures both in “The Alto Knights” (a period gangsters movie with a folding Robert de Niro) and “Mickey 17” (a science fiction film with two Robert Pattinsons).

But the strong openness for “Sinners”, which should be maintained in the next week given the strong mouth to mouth, Cement Coogler’s Place as one of a handful or filmmakers whose name attracts large audiences. Another would be Jordan Pele, whose “Nope” (2022) debuted similarly with $ 44.3 million.

Angel Studios “” The King of Kings “, an animated story of the life of Jesus addressed to the Christian public, capitalized on Easter weekend, raised $ 17.2 million in his second week of launch. That was almost equal to his first weekend ($ 19.1 million), and took” The King of the Kings “to a national total of $ 45.3 million.

“The Wedding Banquet” by Bleecker Street, the reinvention of Andrew Ahn of the Comedy of Queer errors of Ang Lee in 1993, was inaugurated in 1,142 Sreens of North America with $ 922,906 in ticket sales. “The wedding banquet”, a success at the Sundance Film Festival, stars Lily Gladstone, Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran and the newcomer Han Gi-chan.
