Many fans were bewildered by the placement of pins No. 16 Deringing the final round of the masters on Sunday, but the change of location was for a good reason.

In the CBS broadcast on Sunday, Jim Nantz revealed that the placement was changed in tribute to the six -time Masters Jack Nicklaus.

50 years ago, Jack Nicklaus, 35, captured his fifth green jacket. The exciting final in 1975 included the 40 -foot Putt Birdie of Nicklaus in No. 16. The Birdie gave him an unknown advantage that he is a hero until the end. #Masters pic.twitter.com/ftd5ifofwc

It was 50 years ago when Nicklaus won his fifth Masters, and the most crucial moment in his victory appeared in Hole 16 when he sank a 40 -foot Birdie to take a single shot advantage. Nicklaus would cling to that edge the rest of the road.

The PIN was located on the back of the right of the hole for that legendary moment, and that is where he moved on Sunday to pay tribute.

Hole 16, known as “Redbud”, has a typical placement of the Sunday pin that is particularly iconic.

Jack Nicklaus, 35, captured his fifth green jacket in 1975. EMMASTERS/X.

“The 16th Green is quite known to the famous location of the Sunday Hole, just for the left Greenside bunker,” describes the masters on its website. “This location in holes in particular is the main reason why ‘Redbud’ has seen 24 holes in one in the Masters tournament, more than any other hole in the Augusta National.”

Maybe cutting the chances of seeing a hole in one, then, then?

It is not surprising that fans are initially upset. But a hat advice for one of the most legendary golfers of all time is a respectable movement of the tournament staff.

The now 85 -year -old won the Masters in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1972 and again in 1975, the door of the tournament that its iconic 40 -foot birds. He was there 10 years before winning one last time in 1986.
