The governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds (R), announced Friday morning that he will not seek re -election in 2026.

In a video posted on social networks, Governor Reynolds said Voters, “serving as his governor has the greatest honor of my life, an opportunity that, not long ago, could never have imagined.”

The politician expressed his gratitude for the Iowans trust placed on it before saying that he wanted to share a “personal decision” with his voters.

“After a lot of thought, prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided that I will not look for re -election in 2026,” Governor Reynolds said.

“This was an easy decision because I love this state and I love to serve you,” he added.

Governor Reynolds said he will leave the position, in part, because Shey chickens to be more present with re -family. The affiliate of DES Moines CBS, Kcci, said Friday that the governor’s husband was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023, but was in remission from January.

According to the affiliate:

Brad Sherman, a Williamsburg pastor who served a period in Iowa’s house from January 2023 to January 2025, said he told Reynolds about his intentions to run last fall.

“I wanted me to know that I am doing this mainly because I feel that God leads me to do it,” Sherman said in an interview with Kcci on Monday. “It’s not as if I had great revenge against her. I don’t always get closer to me.”

Iowa will soon become the first state to previously approved previously approved the protections of civil rights based on “gender identity,” Breitbart News reported at the end of February. At the beginning of the same month, Governor Reynolds criticized a local sheriff for violating state law by refusing to help the federal immigration application. The immigration and customs control of the United States (ICE) has been working with state agencies since January to implement the mass deportation policies of President Donald Trump, part of his greatest effort to reverse the avalanche of illegal immigration unleashed Joe.

President Trump won Iowa during the 2024 presidential elections, marking his third victory in the state since 2016.

“Iowa has supported Trump in his three campaigns, voting for him about Hillary Clinton in 2016 for 9.5 points and on Biden in 2020 for 8.2 points,” Breitbart News reported in November. “The State had favored the Democrats in the presidential elections since the late 1980s, in addition to George W. Bush in 2004. However, the State has not been seen as competitive since Trump won in 2016.”
