The White House says that the special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff had very positive and constructive “conversations” with Iran on Saturday.
The White House issued a statement about the highly anticipated meeting in Oman, where an American Witkoff delegation and the United States ambassador to Oman Ana Escribima had conversations with Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Abbas Araghchi. Omaní Foreign Minister said Badr organized the meeting in Muscat.
“The discussions were very positive and constructive, and the United States deeply thanks Oman’s sultanate for his support for this initiative,” said the White House in a statement.
“The special envoy Witkoff submitted to Dr. Araghchi that he had instructions from President Trump to resolve the differences of our two nations through dialogue and diplomacy, if that is possible, the targets attentive, underway.
“These problems are very complicated, and the direct communication of Witkoff’s special envoy today was a step forward to achieve a beneficial mutual result. The sides again next Saturday,” the statement concluded.
President Donald Trump foreshadowed the meeting on Saturday last Monday, while talking along with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Oval office. Trump and Netanyahu said Iran can’t have nuclear weapons.
“We are having conversations immediately with Iran, and they have begun … on Saturday we have a very big meeting, and we will see what can happen, and I think everyone agrees that making an agreement would be preferable to do the obvious,” Trump said.
“And it is obvious is not something I want to get involved or, frankly, that Israel wants to participate if they can avoid it. So we will see what we can avoid, but it is getting territory,” hey. “
He continued to say that Iran would be in “great danger” if Saturday’s conversations were not successful.
“I think that if the conversations are not successful with Iran, I think Iran will be in great danger. And I hate to say, a great danger, because it cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he said.
