San Jose – Timothy Morigeau sat in the shadow of a tree on Friday morning outside a full motorized vehicle department when he approached his third hour of waiting to obtain his real identification before the federal deadline for compliance next month.
Morigeau, a 39 -year -old resident from San José, had reached the DMV around 9 am and waited about two hours for his appointment before discovering that he needed to bring the physical copies of the documents he already had back. At almost noon, he said he still had about two hours to wait.
“It is frustrating because we are in Silicon Valley. What is the point that they still need) paper documents? Most people no longer receive paper bills,” Morigeau said. “Fortunately, I can do it, but not everyone can go home and return.”
As a key deadline approaches of May 7, which mark the requirement of having a state driver’s license or an identification card that meets the identification of ID to fly to people throughout the bay, they flood DMV to request the update. For residents who have not yet requested, the process involves at least three documents, an online application and a trip to the DMV.

However, it does not need to panic: the deadline of May 7 only marks the day when the transport security administration will begin to enforce the request to have a real document or other document approved by the Federal Government, as a passport, to fly in the country, the DMV spokesman already has a valid passport or no impeccable flight plan it is not necessary to rush to request the ID.
“The DMV wants people to know that May 7 is not a deadline to obtain real identification, that is only the date on which the TSA will begin to enforce the federal requirement (for air trips),” said Toaboc. “Californians who still need to update a real identification, but who already have a document approved by the federal government, as a passport, can comfortably wait for real identification when their driver’s license must be renewed.”
Whatever American or legal resident is eligible to request real identification, said Ongtoaboc.
The California Annex has experienced an “anticipated increase” in the number of people looking for real identifications as the deadline progresses next month, said Ongoaboc. To help with the influx of applications, some DMP crimes, even in pleasanton and fremont, will open an hour before at 7 am from Monday to Friday, excluding Wednesdays to provide identification quotes until June 27.
To request real identification, Californians must first complete an online form and send their documents on the DMV website in DMV.CA.gov, said OngToaboc. Applicants will need to know their social security number.
The required documents include a document that demonstrates the identity and includes the full name and date of birth, such as an American passport or a birth certificate of the United States., And two documents that prove the residence, such as public services invoices or bank records, according to the DMV. Each document must include the full name of the applicant. If the name of an applicant has changed, a legal name change document is also required, such as a marriage certificate or adoption documents.
The DMV has an interactive verification list to select which document sets meet the requirements. Applicants then owe their physical documents to a DMV location to finish the application process, which can take only 15 minutes, said Ongtoaboc. The DMV recommends making an appointment to reduce waiting time.
Approximately two weeks are needed to receive a real identification after sending the required documents in the DMV to receive the card, said Ongtoaboc, and pointed out that the processing time is the same as a standard identification card. Through the updated processing times on its website, he added.
On Friday morning, through several places around the Bay area, they were full of people, many grabbing colorful document folders to obtain their real IDs. In San José, waiting times extended in the hours.
Mai, a 40 -year -old resident or San José who refused to share his last name, tok a day off to obtain his real identification on Friday morning because he has a flight in June and lost an appointment on Thursday that he made two months in advance. I had a leg waiting for an hour and a half.

GH, a 50 -year -old resident from San José who shared only his initials, added that the process was “quite good.”
“I pushed it because the last deadline was pushed,” he said. He added that everything that the application does online is to “accelerate it to obtain the ticket”, but that it remains “a cumbersome process.”
“It really does not seem to get much because of its due diligence to do the job first, and then you appear and hit yourself,” I’m 100 distance numbers, “GH said.
In the DMV office in Diamond Boulevard in Concord, each chair inside the building was occupied in the middle of signs that announced to the public all services, including the renewal of real identification, with which the employees no longer help. The crowd expected an spilled appointment outside the front grass area, and others also sat in their cars.
“I don’t just want to start with this,” said Javy Hernández, a man in his 40 years of Martínez, while satting behind the driver’s seat of a truck under the shadow of a tree. “There are so many documents, so many things you need. With luck, I have all the right ones. You never know.”
In a bank, Sara, born, 70s, or Pleasant Hill, said she hoped that her appearance was the cappera in a day process she called “clumsy.”
“I overcome everything, but each part has been sailing before the green light reaches the DMP” I consider myself a lot of knowledge with things online. I have been involved in him for years. But if you are not a true knowledge, those people will feel frustrated with the process and can quit smoking. “
