A New York jury ordered James to pay to pay $ 1.68 billion to the boxes of women who accused him of sexual aggression.

Wednesday’s decision marked one of the largest jury awards in New York history. While $ 1.4 billion were for punitive damage, the other $ 280 million were allocated to compensatory damage.

The 80 -year -old dishonored director did not appear in the Court for the trial, where 40 women touched the position to share their stories of sexual abuse and other crimes that date from about 35 years.

According to the reports, Tobach tried to dismiss the case last year and stopped attending the audience after his application was denied.

Due to his absence, the judge issued a default sentence against Toback, making the recent trial only for damages.

The lawyer of the plaintiffs, Brad Beckworth, told journalists that he expects the payment of hope to send a message to powerful people “who do not treat women in a learned way.”

“This verdict is justice,” Beckworth said in a statement, according to NPR. “But most importantly, it is about recovering the power of abusers, and their facilitators, and returning it to those whom he tried to control and silence.”

Around three boxes, the women filed a joint demand against the “series sex predator” in 2022 after the Adult Survivors Law entered into force in the state of New York, allowing victims of sexual abuse to occur independently of a crime without a lack of crime.

The women said that the Oscar -nominated filmmaker “used their reputation, power and influence in the entertainment industry” to “attract them” so that they are under the appearance that they would give them their great rest.

However, they affirmed that “he fell as he imprisoned them sexually, he attacked and/or mistreated them” before the blacklist of the entertainment industry.

He allegedly used to threaten to kill some of the victims if they appeared for the assaults.

The writer “Bugsy” has been accused of sexual harassment and assault for more than 300 women in his life, all of which he has denied.

The accusations came to light for the first time at the end of 2017 as the #MeToo movement won impulse. At that time, 30 women accused Toback or Sexual Dutuct.

However, the Los Angeles County District Prosecutor’s Office decided not to process the director in 2018 due to the Statute of Limitations.
